Anees Bazmee, Akshay Kumar Reunite After 15 Years For Comedy Caper

Anees Bazmee has confirmed that he is reuniting with Akshay Kumar after 15 years for a new comedy project. The scripting is nearly complete, and shooting is likely to commence soon if plans fall into place. While there is some uncertainty regarding the fate of No Entry Mein Entry, the sequel to Bazmee’s 2005 hit No Entry, the director is returning to another cherished collaboration. He is set to work with Akshay Kumar once again, 15 years after their last film together, Thank You (2011).

Although rumours about their reunion have been circulating for some time, Bazmee confirmed the news to Mid-Day, saying, “It is a comedy. I am writing the script right now, it’s almost complete. If everything goes as planned, we will start shooting soon.”

There had been reports suggesting that the yet-untitled film might be a remake of the Telugu action comedy Sankranthiki Vasthunam. However, Bazmee remained tight-lipped about the details. He did, however, express his happiness about working with Kumar again, reflecting on their long-standing bond. “There is mutual love and respect between us. When I told him about this film, he was more than happy,” he shared. He added that they have stayed in touch over the years despite not collaborating recently.

Bazmee Reflects On His Bollywood Career

Bazmee’s last film was Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (2024). He has built a three-decade-long career primarily on situational comedies. He has observed that writing comedy today demands much greater precision. “Earlier, things were more instinctive. Now you have to write with a lot of thought. You also have to keep in mind whether the actors can handle that kind of comedy. I like writing under pressure. That helps me write better. When I’m happy or angry, something good comes out. But if I’m sad or blank, it becomes difficult to write,” he explained.

The director emphasised that comedy remains the most enduring genre, even as action films currently dominate the box office. “Comedy is the most difficult genre, but it stays with people the longest.”

Akshay Kumar is gearing up for his films Bhoot Bangla, Haiwaan and Welcome To The Jungle in 2026.
