A 38-year-old woman was allegedly attacked by a group of men outside a mosque in Bengaluru after her husband filed a complaint against her regarding a domestic issue. The incident took place on the afternoon of April 9, when the woman was called to the Jama Masjid in Tavarekere after her husband’s complaint to the mosque authorities.
The assault outside the mosque was caught on camera, and the video quickly spread on social media, leading to swift police action and the arrest of six men involved. In the footage, the woman is seen being brutally attacked by a group of men using sticks, pipes, and clubs. Some even tried to hit her with stones, allegedly aiming to kill her.
What led to the incident
In her police complaint, 38-year-old domestic worker Shabina Banu said that her relative Nasreen visited her on April 7, and a man named Fayaz also came over that day. The three of them went for a short trip to a hill in Bukkambudi and returned later in the evening.
Shabina’s husband, Jameel Ahmed Shameer, came home and saw them together, which reportedly angered him. He later approached the Jama Masjid in Tavarekere and lodged a complaint against Shabina, Nasreen, and Fayaz.
After the complaint, the mosque committee called all three to appear on April 9. It was during their visit that the violent incident took place outside the mosque.
Police have arrested six people for the assault. The six accused involved in the case identified as Mohammad Niyaz (32), a driver; Mohammad Gauspeer (45), a scrap dealer; Chand Basha (35), a sugarcane juice vendor; Dastagir (24), a bike mechanic; Rasool T R (42), a fisherman from Bukkambudi Lake; and Inayat Ullah (51), a local resident.
Shabina officially filed her complaint on April 11 under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Following this, a special investigation team was set up, led by Inspector Ravo under the supervision of Davangere SP Uma Prashant. The team also included Additional SPs Santosh Vijay Kumar and Manjunath, along with Channagiri ASP Sam Varghese. Acting swiftly, the police tracked down and arrested the accused. Further investigation is currently underway.
