Just a day after the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir acted swiftly to stop another serious threat.
On Wednesday, the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police prevented terrorists from entering the Kashmir Valley through Kulgam. During their operations, they found a secret hideout used by terrorists in Kulgam’s Tangmarg area. When security forces reached the area, the terrorists opened fire, leading to a fierce gunfight.
According to reports from the news agency PTI, the clash happened during a cordon and search operation in Tangmarg. Security personnel had received information that terrorists were hiding in the area. The search quickly turned into an encounter when the hidden terrorists attacked the forces.
During the operation, security forces discovered gas cylinders, beddings, suitcases, water containers, utensils, a pressure cooker half-filled with chicken biryani, and raw rice scattered on the floor — all signs that the hideout had been actively used.
This new encounter comes right after the deadly terror strike in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow, which claimed at least 26 lives. The attack is believed to have been carried out by The Resistance Front (TRF), a group linked to the terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Sources say that Lashkar commander Adil Gouri, who left India for Pakistan in 2018, played a major role in planning the Pahalgam attack. It is believed he recently crossed back into Indian territory.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the terror attack. Speaking from Bihar, he said:
“Today, from the soil of Bihar, I say to the whole world, India will identify, track, and punish every terrorist and those backing them. We will pursue them to the ends of the Earth. India’s spirit will never be broken by terrorism.”
He also added: “Whoever orchestrated this dastardly attack, those terrorists and the masterminds, will be punished way beyond their imagination.”
