The film industry is grieving the loss of one of its most beloved icons. Dharmendra, who entertained generations with his charm and powerful performances, passed away on November 24 at the age of 89. Despite facing health issues due to age, he remained active in films and was looking forward to the release of Ikkis, which also stars Agastya Nanda, the grandson of Amitabh Bachchan. The Deol family gave him a quiet and dignified farewell on Monday.
Dharmendra’s Prayer Meet Held In Bandra
A prayer meet has been organised for the late superstar, and an invitation for the event has been circulating widely on social media. The prayer service, titled “Celebration of Life,” features a young photo of Dharmendra, symbolising his evergreen spirit. It is being held today, November 27, at Taj Lands End in Bandra, Mumbai, from 5 pm to 7:30 pm. Reports suggest that singer Sonu Nigam will be performing some of Dharmendra’s popular songs as a tribute.
Speaking about working with him in Ikkis, director Sriram Raghavan recently recalled Dharmendra’s dedication. In an interview with NDTV, he shared how shooting could be tiring for the veteran actor, yet he never complained. Even when exhausted, Dharmendra always agreed to do one more take, and the moment the camera started rolling, he delivered effortless magic. Raghavan described him as “unbelievable.”
Dharmendra, a former Member of Parliament from Rajasthan’s Bikaner constituency and a recipient of the Padma Bhushan, was cremated without state honours. Although a state funeral with a gun salute was expected due to his immense contribution to Indian cinema, the Deol family chose not to opt for it, as per reports.
He is survived by his wives, Prakash Kaur and Hema Malini, and his children Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Vijeta Deol, Ajeita Deol, Esha Deol, and Ahana Deol. His legacy will continue to shine through his films and the memories he leaves behind.
