Abhay Verma gained widespread attention following his debut in Munjya. Recently, the actor discussed how his perspective on masculinity has evolved. He explained that while Ranbir Kapoor’s character in Animal was portrayed as an alpha male, even his own role in Munjya was that of an alpha, as he fought to save his family from a ghost.
Abhay Verma Claims Ranbir Kapoor Was An ‘Alpha’ In Animal
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Abhay shared, “I grew up in Haryana, where manliness was often seen as a matter of power. It wasn’t about influence or leadership, but about physical strength and the ability to intimidate others. Thankfully, as I matured, I realised it’s quite the opposite. True manliness is about understanding others and not instilling fear. That’s what makes a better man.”
He added, “The era of ‘mard ko dard nahi hota’ (men don’t feel pain) is gone. Men today are more open about their feelings, and I’m glad that there’s space for men to be themselves. When I was younger, I believed that showing vulnerability or emotions made you less of a man, but I now see how beautiful it is to be genuine. My sister and mother have helped me become a better man than anyone else.”
Abhay On Terms Like Alpha, Sensitive
Abhay also discussed the terms ‘alpha’ and ‘sensitive,’ calling them subjective. “For me, Ranbir Kapoor in Animal is an alpha. But if I look at my character in Munjya, I see myself as an alpha too, because I fight to protect my family from a ghost. It’s all just a definition—movies are movies, and they shouldn’t be confused with real life,” he said.
He further emphasised, “Characters in films are created for entertainment. In real life, every man has both an alpha and a beta side. It depends on the situation. I believe men should embrace both — showing their strength when protecting their loved ones, but also displaying sensitivity when their family needs emotional support.”

The controversy surrounding Ranbir Kapoor’s film Animal mainly focuses on its graphic violence, depiction of toxic masculinity, and a contentious scene involving a female character. Critics and viewers have debated whether the film’s explicit content risks normalising or glamorising harmful themes, while others defend it as a gritty, intense action movie intended for a mature audience.
