Amruta Shubhash Recalls Mob Chase While Filming Ranveer Singh’s Gully Boy

Showing a picture of her with Ranveer Singh in Gully Boy, Amruta Subhash said, “No, but I want to talk about this picture, because when this picture was taken, this is that exact scene when we are leaving the house, it was one of the scariest days of my life. Because this tempo… Zoya had set it up right in Dharavi. The set was created inside Dharavi itself. Till today, I don’t know where Dharavi ended and our set began. It was that seamless. It was brilliant, just brilliant what she managed to do there. So, this tempo — it was genuinely all broken and beat up, because we’re playing poor characters, right? So Ranveer and I were in it, and there were bouncers around us, extras dressed like they belonged there, just roaming around.”

She added, “But for the first time, I experienced something. Usually, I would only meet Ranveer inside the vanity van, on set, during the shoot, and that’s it. But this was the first time I stepped out with him into the outside world. And it was so scary. From behind us, where this picture was taken, I saw something that shook me. Our tempo had gone a little into the middle of Dharavi, and suddenly, from all the buildings around, people started running down, thud thud thud thud thud! They just began pouring out and chasing the tempo. This tempo wasn’t even a fast one. And that mob started running, and I started shivering. Because when a crowd runs behind you, and you know the vehicle won’t go too fast, that fear is real. I was shivering.”

Amruta On Ranveer Pacifying Her During Mob Attack

The actress said, “Especially because I mean, it’s Ranveer from Padmaavat sitting there, he’s a superstar! And the people had started running… it was so scary. I wasn’t okay. I was shivering. Ranveer just held my hand. He obviously understood, and he said, ‘Amruta, you okay?’ I was like, ‘No…’ So he said, ‘My bouncers are around. Don’t worry, nothing will happen.’ He was pacifying me. And I was still shivering, because the energy of that mob is wild. It’s not always happy energy, you know? It’s very scary. There’s a kind of desperation in it.”

She concluded, “And if it goes out of control… that crowd, the sheer number of people that came out… But I just started breathing deeply. And Ranveer kept saying, ‘It’s okay. Nothing will happen. Don’t worry.’ Because he’s used to it. I wasn’t. That’s the moment you see here. The tension you see on my face, that’s not Raziya’s tension, that’s Amruta’s!”
