The Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust, which runs Mumbai’s well-known Lilavati Hospital, has accused former trustees and others of misusing over Rs 1,500 crore. The trust has filed complaints with the Enforcement Directorate and Bandra Police, according to news agency PTI.

Shockingly, the trust also claims that black magic was performed on the hospital premises. These allegations came up after a forensic audit of the hospital’s financial records. Following orders from the Bandra Magistrate Court, multiple FIRs have been registered against former trustees for financial wrongdoing and occult practices.

Prashant Mehta, the trust’s Permanent Resident Trustee, said, “We filed complaints, which led to FIRs as per the court’s orders. More than three FIRs have already been registered, and a fourth case related to black magic is now pending.”

Prashant Mehta, the trust’s Permanent Resident Trustee, said they are committed to protecting the integrity of Lilavati Hospital and ensuring that funds meant for patient care are used properly. He called the financial mismanagement uncovered in the forensic audit a betrayal by former trustees and a serious threat to the hospital’s mission.

According to PTI, the current trustees ordered a forensic audit after taking control of the trust following a long legal battle. They hired Chetan Dalal Investigation and Management Services and ADB and Associates to investigate the financial records.

“Our forensic auditors have submitted over five reports, showing that more than Rs 1,500 crore was misused and diverted by an illegal group of former trustees,” Mehta alleged. He claimed that most of these trustees are non-resident Indians (NRIs) living in Dubai and Belgium.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) is now investigating these cases. One FIR claims that Rs 1,200 crore was misused through illegal deals with third-party distributors for hospital purchases. Another case in Gujarat involves the theft of valuables from the hospital’s facility there.

Regarding allegations of black magic, Mehta said, “We have found more than seven urns containing human hair and skulls on the hospital premises.”

Mumbai Police’s EOW has also started investigating a Rs 85 crore fraud case against three former trustees. The FIR, registered on December 30 last year, alleges that between 2002 and 2023, the accused used fake documents to take control of the trust and misused Rs 85 crore for personal legal fees and expenses instead of buying medical equipment.

Mehta has urged the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to investigate these financial crimes under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.The trust has reiterated its commitment to ensuring accountability and protecting hospital funds meant for patient care.
