Movie goers rejoice! Tickets to only cost Rs 99 on NCD

There’s a piece of good news for cine goers as Multiplex Association of India and cinemas across India have decided to celebrate 13th October as the National Cinema Day. Cinephiles will be able to celebrate this joyous day by going to their favourite cinema for their favourite movie for just Rs 99 only. This offer will however not apply to recliners and premium formats such as IMAX and 4DX.

This year National Cinema Day will be celebrated across more than 4000 screens which will include theatre chains such as PVR Inox, Cinepolis, Miraj, Citypride, Asian, Mukta A2, Movie Time, WAVE, M2K, Delite, and others. The National Cinema Day which was celebrated in September last year saw over 6.5 million admissions which is the highest for a single day. Trade experts estimated that theatres earned almost Rs 48 crores across films in different languages with tickets priced at Rs 75 last year.

Unprecedented demand for movie tickets:

“The one day initiative has seen a massive response from Indian moviegoers, with shows starting as early as 6.00 am due to an unprecedented demand for movie tickets. Audiences of all ages came together and the country’s cinema operators reported house-full shows throughout the day, making 23 September the highest attended day of the year,” MAI had said in a statement last year.

According to trade website Box Office India, Chup: Revenge of the Artist had collected in the range of Rs. 2.75-3 crore on its first day which could have been its opening weekend had it not been for National Cinema Day. Brahmastra: Part One- Shiva had earned Rs. 8.50 crore, making for the second highest third Friday of all time for a film in the Hindi language, after SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion.

The Multiplex Association of India is a body of cinema operators which advocates on behalf of the cinema exhibition sector and works with regulatory bodies and industry partners to highlight opportunities and face various challenges faced by the cinema exhibition sector.
