Actor Renuka Shahane recently shared her feelings regarding the uncertain future of Anushka Sharma’s Chakda Xpress. She revealed that most of her scenes in the movie were with Sharma, who has been absent from the big screen since her 2018 release, Zero. Renuka expressed her disappointment upon hearing reports that the film might be shelved, stating she is truly heartbroken.
Renuka Shahane Is Disappointed On Reports Of Her And Anushka Sharma’s Chakda Xpress Being Shelved
During an interview with NDTV, Renuka discussed the buzz about the film’s potential cancellation. She said, “I didn’t know. I am very shocked. I am totally heartbroken. Basically, because I think everyone has put in so much effort. Anushka has also worked on herself so much for it. And whatever scenes I did were so powerful and so impactful, especially for women in sports.”
The actress, who shot her scenes in 2022, emphasized the significance of the story, “Jhulan Goswami is iconic, and coming from a very poor house and making it big—and yet the kind of discrepancy that still exists between men’s cricket and women’s cricket, and all other sports, I would say—Chakda Xpress had that core quality of sportsmanship.”
Renuka also praised Anushka’s performance, saying she has done a “good job of creating that character.” She shared that most of her scenes were with Anushka and expressed hope that “there was some way such a beautiful film could be salvaged.”
About Chakda Xpress
Anushka Sharma has been away from films since her last appearance in Zero in 2018. She completed Chakda Xpress, a biopic of cricketer Jhulan Goswami, in 2022. However, the release date has not yet been announced. The film was set to be released on Netflix and is produced by Anushka’s brother Karnesh Ssharma under Clean Slate Filmz. After the company parted ways with Netflix last year, several projects, including Chakda Xpress, faced delays. There’s speculation that Clean Slate might repurchase the film to explore other release options.
In 2022, Anushka shared a teaser for the project, which drew criticism over her Bengali accent and the attempt at darkening her skin. As of now, there is no confirmed release date.
