Director Hansal is set to collaborate with actor Saif on the film adaptation of Nilanjana S. Roy’s critically acclaimed novel Black River. According to reports, Saif Ali Khan has acquired the adaptation rights to the murder mystery novel and will not only star in the film but also co-produce it with Hansal Mehta’s production company, True Story Films.
Saif Ali Khan To Star And Co-Produce Hansal Mehta’s Next Film
As reported by PeepingMoon, the project is currently in its early stages, with Hansal and his team working on the script. Production is expected to begin by mid-2026, once both Saif and Hansal have completed their existing commitments. Black River tells the story of the cold-blooded murder of an eight-year-old girl in a small village on the outskirts of Delhi and the subsequent investigation, which raises questions about religious tensions and social divisions.
Saif will play the role of Sub-Inspector Ombir Singh, the determined officer tasked with uncovering the truth behind the murder. The film will also explore themes such as class divide, religious strife, and violence against women, making it a poignant commentary on modern India. Before diving into “Black River”, both Saif and Hansal have several other projects to complete. The collaboration between Saif and Hansal is highly anticipated, given their individual successes in the film industry.
Saif- Hansal’s Projects
Saif is currently shooting for a Netflix film about India’s first general election and is also gearing up for the release of Jewel Thief on Netflix on April 25. He is also committed to starring in Race 4, which will begin production by the end of 2025.
Hansal, on the other hand, will soon start shooting for a Netflix business drama series starring Anil Kapoor and Vijay Varma. He is also working on a multi-season biographical series on Mahatma Gandhi, with the first season already wrapped up and the second season expected to go on floors soon. Additionally, Hansal is overseeing the third season of Sony LIV’s Scam series as a showrunner.
