Samay Raina Blames Parents For Young Children Watching His Content

Samay Raina needs no introduction. The comedian faced intense backlash over an episode of his YouTube show, India’s Got Latent went viral for controversial reasopns. After removing all IGL episodes from YT and assuring full cooperation with authorities in the ongoing investigation, Samay seems to be making a comeback. He recently announced new dates for his international shows, signaling a new chapter in his career.

While he gears for this new beginning, a podcast recorded in January this year has resurfaced and sees the comedian discussing the responsibilities of influencers and also drawing a sharp line when it comes to what children consume online. Scroll below to know what he said.

Samay Raina: Parents Have Failed

In the clip – in which Samay Raina shared his strong opinions about parenting in the digital age, the comedian is heard asking health content creator Revant Himatsingka, aka Food Pharmer, “Do you think a person like me has a responsibility to not drink Coke and to not be myself? I drink Coke at home, do you think I should fake it in public places and promote drinking water instead?”

When the podcaster replied, “Yes, I think it will leave an impression on kids 8-10 years of age,” Samay responded sharply, “If someone as young as eight-ten years old is watching me, then their parents have failed.”

He continued, “When I was that age, my father would beat me if I watched television. I didn’t watch television then. I never got influenced by all this and I really think he did a great job as a father. So the parents are the ones who need to be responsible and not me. I have to be myself. If I want to influence people to do something, it is just to be honest.”

Samay: There are too many fake people in this world

Defending his raw, unfiltered style, Samay Raina continued, “There are too many fake people in this world. Public gets depressed when they see someone so perfect, doing and saying all the right things, it attacks your confidence and you start to question yourself, ‘Is there anything wrong with me?’ Then comes a guy like me, just being myself, drinking Coke, saying wrong things. They be like, ‘You know what? It’s okay to be me, because this is who I relate to.’”

Samay’s Controversy

Earlier this year, Samay Raina found himself in hot water when podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia was heard asking an India’s Got Latent content, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to make it stop forever?” The video – which has since been deleted, triggered massive outrage, leading to multiple FIRs filed against all panelists.
