The debate over the best South Indian food is never-ending. Do you prefer soft and fluffy idlis or crispy, delicious dosas? And which state makes them the best? Whether it’s the spicy dosas from Andhra Pradesh, the soft and fluffy ones from Bengaluru, or the crispy ones from Chennai, food lovers can’t seem to agree.
It all began when one user on X (formerly Twitter) claimed that Andhra Pradesh has the best dosas and that dosas from other states are “overrated.”
“India needs to eat dosas from Andhra Pradesh. Dosas made anywhere else are overrated,” the user wrote.
The discussion didn’t stop there. The same user also said that Andhra Pradesh has the best chutneys, better than those from Bengaluru and Tamil Nadu.
“TN makes the worst dosas and the worst chutneys. Bangalore makes good dosas, but chutneys aren’t up to the mark. But you get the best dosa and the best chutneys in Andhra Pradesh,” the post added.
Different opinions on dosas, chutneys, and idlis
While Andhra Pradesh received praise, some users defended Tamil Nadu’s food. One person appreciated Chennai’s idlis, calling them “the best.”
Another dosa lover had a different opinion: “Mysore Masala dosas are the best. Idlis from TN is the best. Andhra and Telangana have the best chutneys.”
However, not everyone is a fan of Andhra-style food. A user said, “Andhra food is unhealthy and spicy. Not recommended.”
Some agreed that chutneys from Telangana are the best. A Kannadiga user wrote, “The best chutney I have ever had is from Telangana, loaded with groundnuts,” but also mentioned that Tamil Nadu’s dosas were a “big disappointment.”
In the end, some food lovers had a different perspective. They believed that home-cooked food was the best.
“Best dosas, chutney, and sambar are made at home. 100% customisable, 100% knowledge of hygiene and food ingredients used, served with lots of love. No restaurant can match it,” one user shared.
