World‘s highest international fashion runway in Ladakh sets world record

In a stunning event in the majestic Himalayas, at Umling-la, the highest motorable road in the world at an astounding altitude of 190,024 feet, created history by hosting the World’s Highest International Fashion Runway. This fashion show, held as part of the Vibrant Ladakh festival, featured models from 14 different countries.

The event was put together by the Ladakh administration and Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Leh, in collaboration with Ladakh Art and Entertainment Alliance. It received support from the Indian Army and Border Roads Organisation.

The fashion show, which included two models from Ladakh, aimed to showcase and celebrate India’s diverse culture, as exemplified by the principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. It also highlighted the prized Pashmina of Ladakh, which holds a Geographical Indication (GI) tag. The entire event emphasized the importance of sustainable and responsible tourism, according to an official spokesperson.

The outfits worn by the models featured a range of colors inspired by the spring and summer seasons. Additionally, they displayed Pashmina products created in the Changthang region.

This event marked a significant milestone as it allowed international tourists to stay overnight in Hanle. The local villagers were overjoyed and expressed their appreciation by honoring the models with special cultural performances.

Tashi Gyalson, the Chairman of LAHDC, praised this achievement and extended gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for enabling foreign tourists to visit. He looked forward to an increase in tourism activities in the region.
