On Monday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant reaffirmed that if residents of Anjuna and the neighboring regions are against the Sunburn electronic dance music (EDM) festival, it will not be permitted on New Year’s Eve.

“Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo has already made a request not to allow holding of EDM festival on the fourth day i.e. December 31,” Sawant responded when asked if the Sunburn festival will be permitted to take place at Vagator Beach for four days, from December 28 to December 31. The authorities will not let the celebration to take place on New Year’s Eve if the residents of Anjuna object.

Delilah Lobo, the MLA for Siolim, who was also there, asserted that the residents of Anjuna and the neighboring regions oppose Sunburn being conducted on December 31, the fourth day.

After attending the feast service of St. Francis Xavier in Old Goa, Sawant and Lobo both spoke to media.

It is to be noted that the residents of Anjuna-Caisua are adamantly against any attempt to prolong the Sunburn festival from three to four days, especially on New Year’s Eve, as it would cause severe traffic jams across the town.

Conversely, the Anjuna community has called an extraordinary general body meeting for Sunday, December 10, at 10 a.m., to make decisions about the application that the event organizers submitted.

The Sunburn festival was moved from Candolim to Vagator in 2013. It was only hosted in Pune once before moving back to Vagator. The festival’s organizers this year have applied for authorization to run the event for four days, and they have already begun selling tickets online for those four days, which includes December 31.

The Sunburn organizers’ decision to begin ticket sales before to getting the necessary approvals has enraged the local panchayat and all other authorities, whom they took for granted.

A decision to ban the EDM festival on December 31 was passed by the Anjuna-Caisua panchayat.
